Karl-Marx-Allee: The glamorous boulevard in east Berlin. The Karl-Marx-Allee is a monumental socialist boulevard built by the former GDR in Berlin Friedrichshain and Mitte and contains spacious and luxurious apartments. Philip Johnson described the boulevard as 'true city planning on the grand scale', while Aldo Rossi called it 'Europe's last great avenue.' It is 89m wide and 2km long with dual towers at Frankfurter Tor and Strausberger Platz. The ensemble is the longest listed building in Germany and covered by architectural ceramics which give the avenue its special touch. Since German reunification most of the buildings have been meticulously restored. Karl-Marx-Allee is a marvellous location for an A-grade property investment with multitude of cafés, restaurants and bars and is very sought-after by German and foreign investors alike. |
